Essential Anatomy 5 App Reviews

Worth Every Cent!

As a Remedial and Sport Massage Therapist, this application is not only a helpful tool in helping my clients understand the given condition they have, but it was a huge asset during my education. Anatomically accurate with 3D visualization, Origin, Insertions, actions, innervations and arterial supply. The ability to make notes when isolating each muscle is especially helpful, allowing the user to add in additional information from their own palpation practice, lectures, labs, etc. I would like to take this time to extend a loud shout out to the creators for a job well done, and to keep the updates coming. If you are seeking a tool to assist in your health care education or practice, look no further then Essential Anatomy 5.

EA

Altough I love this app and use it almost everyday there are a few annoyances that I hope the developers will address. One are the pins, which have actually worsened with the newer versions. The pins do not stay where placed and are difficult to manipulate. I’d also like a label feature for a pin that stays visible. The second one is the lack of moveablity of the model. A static image is OK but would be much more effective if, for instance, we could raise the arm, bend the knee, etc. I hope future versios will improve.

PERFECT for Anatomy Students

I am currently taking Anatomy in University and I LOVE using this app to study muscles and other structures. It allows you to really study anatomy using a 3D model. If you pay for add ons it is a very helpful app when studying muscles and bones. I don’t know what I would do without this app.

Muscles and Bones

I teach anatomy and found this app to be an excellent resource. It is especially good for information on muscles , bpones and connective tissue. The nerves and vasculature could be improved. Overall, I use this app an awful lot and recommendit highly to my students

Amazing app for use in Physical Therapy school

3D4Medical is an awesome company. I have a copy of their apps on my Macbook, iPad, and iPhone. It’s a shame they make you pay for the same application on each medium though. Other than that it’s been a great reference especially for muscle videos. It’s been incredibly useful for memorizing muscles and visualizing their action. I also take screen shots of the bones and muscles and make flashcards out of them. This app is worth every penny and I plan on getting more apps by the company especially on my iPad!

Awesome App

My wife and I are studying for the USMLE. We use this app daily! Also, recommend you purchase the 2 in-app upgrades for 10 bucks each. Totally worth it!

One of the best apps on iOS and Mac for Anatomy Students

While it could be a little more useful when it comes to vasculature and nerves along with various ligaments and spaces or boundaries, it still does a fantastic job at allowing the user quick access to 3D views of many structures that may come up in their studies. I’m happy with it, and feel that it was money well spent.

Lifesaver

This app is seriously so great. I know it’s pricey, but it is cheaper (and way more functional) than a textbook. This app and Rohen’s Color Atlas of Anatomy have gotten me through med school. Tip: To move the model on the mac version, hold down control and click and drag.

Great app, disappointing navigation and UI

I’m blown away at how detailed this app is. It’s been able to keep up with my college courses without a hitch. Everything is on there. Unfortunately, just using the program can be stressful at times. Touchpad navigation is very poor compared to their mobile app (which I am not going to spend another $25 on). The search bar shortcut wont activate upon pressing Space, despite what the instructions say. There’s only one touch pad gesture as well, which means full navigation relies on clicking and using the keyboard in some instances. Even quizzes are a chore. You cant exclude certain features from being part of a quiz. If you are to test yourself on cranial bones, prepare for almost every question to be on the location of teeth. These oversights in navigation and UI are hard to dismiss when the app is 35USD. I wish I could get a refund on the app so I could get the iOS version instead, since that is far more enjoyable to use (even if it means going to a much smaller screen). Developers, this app has 5-star, first-in-class detail. But navigating the app is nightmarish and something i’d expect from a free app.

Incredible app, could always improve

The user interface of this app is truly remarkable! Being able to add/remove muscle layers, nerves, etc. has helped a ton in learning anatomy. I do have a few recommendations I would like to see. 1. When searching for or clicking on a muscle, I would like an option to disable the automatic zoom-in. I love that the muscle highlights and stands out, but the constant automatic zoom-in when trying to keep the muscle in relation to the rest of the body part I am studying is very annoying. 2. Some type of bar (like the bars that in word documents) to move left and right/up and down on the body. Because of the constant zoom-in, the body moves all around your screen. If you grab the body, it 3D rotates. If you zoom in/out with your fingers you can only zoom in and out. There seems to be no way to move the body around the screen without constantly having to click the home button. Overall I would definitely recommend this app to anyone taking anatomy and It was worth every penny!

no labels

you have to click each part to know what it is. very awful

Do not buy if youre a student doctor

terrible app. very basic, nothing is labeled (i.e. foramens) and what goes through these foramens. some key features are missing i.e (stylomastiod foramen, vividan canal). I wish i could this this app and get my money back.

Grear App…. love the update

This is a must have for any student- The detail is incredible Would give it 10 stars if I could Love it

Love it

This app has been so perfect while going to school. It’s way better than my text book, and so easy to use.

Amazing App

Technically I would rate it a 4.5/5 but I rounded up! The app has been perfect for visualizing the anatomy when i cannot be in the lab and offers an incredible amount of detail. Perfect for Medical School. My only problem that I have is that the search function is a little broad at times. When im searching for very specific structures it often doesnt pull them up because im not wording it exactly how it is in the search engine. Other than that, this is a wonderful app and I owe a lot of my success to the help this offers.

Great aid for PT school

When you pair this with an atlas and the rest of the internet, it becomes the most helpful tool for studying. Anatomy and kinesiology are a lot easier. Simple to use with tons of information and versatility. Definitely worth the money.

overpraised and overpriced!!!

Dissapointments: 1. Muscles and bones we have to buy additionally. So mercantile. 2. Not all structures or surfaces of organs mentioned. 3. The endocrine system is mixed in digestive end urinary systems. 4. Ear is absent as organ totally 5. Skin structures ignored 6. Nose absent 7. WHERE is the PERITONEUM with all it’s structures, folds and ligaments??? It should be written in description with a big letters: a humble attempt to create visual assistance in studying anatomy. Please, have some teaching professionals involved in further development. But my 8-year kid is just happy. Good job.

Great, but could be better.

This app is an extremely useful tool for demonstration and exploration of the Human body. However, there are two issues with the UI which I want the developers to fix: 1. There’s no panning function. In order to pan across the model I need to zoom in and zoom out several times in different locations on the screen. It is very uncomfortable that I can’t skip to different parts of the body quickly. Please add panning to the app in the next updates. 2. I can’t browse body parts while in “Isolate” mode. This is also very inconvenient since I can’t display one organ and then explain how it’s connected to the other one or a certain system while still have the parts that I need isolated. Please consider adding that to the app. 3. Zoom often lags and displays the empty soace instead of the part of the body that I intended to zoom. I assume the sensitivity settings change on their own. Otherwise, the app is totally worth the money I spent and it was a great help to me with presentations at school. However, the above issues got in the way.

Essential Anatomy is an Essential Adjunct to your Aantomy Class

The only App out there that may be a little better than Essential Anatomy 5 is its successor, Complete Anatomy. You can make screens, recordings and quizzes and collaborate with your fellow students. It makes studying very rirgorous content easier and more productive.

Completeness

In overall quality, this app is the best I have used. I purchased Complete Anatomy, and this app still supersedes it in my opinion. If the advanced information available for ortho and musclular systems etc. were simply applied to this program, it would be better than transitioning to Complete Anatomy, as I find it ironically incomplete (e.g. no real evident way to switch between male and female anatomies). One area I would have liked to see more of is division of the anatomy by region, to assist students learn the anatomical regions by name and location. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints. I keep a copy on my iPhone to assist in the clinical setting/Pt education situations, and a copy on my computer for screenshots used in presentations. Love it.
