Essential Anatomy 5 App Reviews

FAILS TO OPEN, DEVELOPER WORKAROUND FAILS AS WELL...

App locks in white screen after click to open. Attempted a curiously buried developer “work-a-round” which failed to work-a-round. You’d think they’d possess sufficient insight to protect their standing with an immediate and transparant eta communication of repair and, given the $$, reparation to customers.

Stuck on startup with large white square

Worked on Yosemite. Doesn’t work on El Capitan. I bought the app not so long ago, and it was truly impressive. I liked it enough to buy other 3D4Medical apps and some of the in app purchases. Enjoyed those as well. Now, it doesn’t work. Please, patch it.

Apparently NOT compatible with Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have used and enjoyed Essential Anatomy 5 on my iPad and it has been very helpful in my allied health studies. Since I use my Macbook Pro often, I thought I’d also install this app, which is available from the Apple App Store. Installation was easy. However, the app does not work at all. I get the splash screen, then a white blank window with the usual menu bars which do not work. Even the Quit button doesn’t work. I had to do a Force-Quit to shut down the program. Apparently it is not compatible with Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan. I have sent a support request to Apple and response is pending.

Happy but not so happy...

I just bought the app and as a medical student I love it for CERTAIN THINGS when it has to do with GENERAL STRUCTURES since Im a more visual person and it really helps, but still I use the app being guided by my books used in med school and there is a lot of information and details missing A LOT!!!!!!, also I critize that you CANNOT view organs in slice mode so you don’t have the opportunity to see their inner components so whats the point?…. Thats really a dissapointment having in mind this app is for ANATOMY and for medical proffesionals and its not well to give vague information at all and for the price I EXPECTED more from it! So yeah I do really expect to feel more satisfied SOON by having newer updates with better resources for the app… Like I said I like it but still its a little dissapointing since you cannot rely a 100% on its sources, another thing is that from where is the information provided by the app? Is it a reliable source? I don’t see nor titles from books nor authors and it kinds of make you “ not want to trust the app”… anyways its a cool app with a great system but still its really behind in a lot of things GIVEN THE FACT that this app has been for a long a time. I mean come on this is supposed to make feel secure and satisfied with one’s studies by aiding and reinforcing the knowledge one learns, but sadly its not that way. Also it would be really helpful if there were clinical correlations with the structures of the body something REALLY IMPORTANT and I SHOULD SAY THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ALL MEDICINE which helps with diagnosing. This can maybe help you pass an anatomy class in high school for sure, but in medicine it’s still missing a lot. :(

Does not support El Capitan

Needs update to even launch on 10.11.

Crashes

I have redownloaded 3 times and everytime i open the app it freezes and requires a force shut down. Then i am prompted to delete and redownload it which only causes the problem to reoccur. I have the newest version of Mac so this shouldn’t be a problem on my end. For $40 i expected an app that was functional.

Great one!

I Just purchased this app, I was so excited to test it.. but had the same problem with you guys, Did’t work with El Captain.. Support team were so helpful to give a way to run the app! And oh! It’s sooo good! the graphics are so great that will help you to understand all what you want to learn about! highly recommending app!

Mac version crash-prone

This app works well on my iPhone, but the Mac edition constantly crashes upon using the search function (I have El Capitan). It will often crash 5 consecutive times following re-loading the program before working properly, which is incredibly frustrating. Please fix this problem soon!

Unable to run!

My system is OS X El Capitan 10.11.1.Today,after the purchase can not run.Display white screen. Please fix as soon as possible.

Prompt Tech support and great app

This was not compatible with El Capitan at first due to some minor things, but i received prompt tech support and a very simple set of steps that helped me to have access to the app again. Thank you essential anatomy, for being on top of it!

If you have this and Netter’s you’re good to go for MSK

This was a really helpful tool for me during the musculoskeletal module of medical school. The ability to create and save custom bookmarks basically allowed me to make 3D flashcards that I could spin all around and then try to guess all of the mm and nn. Very helpful. Muscles and bone locations are great; sometimes the nn, aa, and vv are a bit different from Netter’s, but I think this is mostly because nn, aa, and vv are different from person to person as well. If anything the small differences caught my attention and highlighted the exact paths of some of the structures. I would highly recommend this app; a lot of the people in my class ended up buying it by the end of MSK. Make sure to also to google the University of Michigan’s Anatomy practice questions, they are also very helpful. Caveat: Make sure you buy it on the platform you want to use it on, some friends bought it on the ipad and then saw how much I could do with it on my Mac and were disappointed that they couldn’t transfer their purchase.

Great app

Great app. seems to continually improve. Responsive customer support - was having trouble moving the model around, found that control+left click/single finger click and drag did the trick.

Great App, One major flaw

I love this app! I’m a medical student, so being able to rotate, remove, and label is incredibly helpful in my understanding! The giant error that needs to be fixed is that the spinal cord is currently running through the body of the vertebrae and the disks. The dorsal/ventral roots are in the correct spot, but wrapping around nothing. The Cauda Equina is in the correct space, but not the spinal cord.

Bone Marks

I like this app a lot the only thing is that you can not see the important landmarks in the bones..which is important for my anatomy class…at least you can pin the structure.

Great App and Wonderful Customer Service

This helps immensely in med school, being able to see everything in 3D. Also, the customer support is awesome. I was talking them to discuss an issue I was having and they e-mailed me personally when the issue was fixed in a patch. Thanks guys!

Phenomenal App

Huge fan of this app. I’m a physical therapy student and this has been a sigificant aid in visualizing the structures of the body. I have also used it in neuro to great effect (the bookmark feature comes in handy for the crainial nerves/brain, it took me a while to find that). A few of the clinics I have worked in have also used this for patient education. The information for skeletal muscle has been consistent with the curiculum at my program for all of the origins, insertions and actions. I have noticed a few discrepancies in regards to the innervations. This can be attributed to where you are looking at the nerve and not erroeous information, but it is something to doublecheck before you dive in and start studying. The note feature works well.

WONDERFUL — PLEASE CREATE SIMILAR APPS FOR VETERINARIANS

This is a remarkable anatomy app, a visual anatomical feast. It’s incredibly easy to use, yet reveals a plethora of visual structures - all with the ability to rotate, enlarge etc. to your heart’s content. Plus, there are icons you can press for further information, videos, etc. My only suggestion for improvement, as a number of other viewers have stated, would be the ability to move the information box around the screen, so that it doesn’t cover up the very visual images you’re trying to look at. (Or to turn the information box off altogether, so that our knowledge can be tested before viewing the written content.) It is my hope that 3D4Medical will consider veterinary apps as well, specifically for horses, dogs and cats, which is needed world-wide and would likely become enormously popular in short order. There is no animal anatomy app I’m aware of that comes even close to this company’s breathtaking imagery, anatomical accuracy, depth of information and ease of use. Vets and Vet students - please join me in letting 3D4Medical know that there is a market for comparative anatomy software on this level! Thanks much -

Macbook different from iPad

If you own an iPad, make sure to purchase on your iPad and NOT on your Macbook. It is cheaper on the iPad and controls are worse on Macbook.

A med student’s perspective

Pros: The organ systems are very detailed, the anatomical relationships are accurate, and the navigation is pretty good. This is an incredible method to gain a 3D understanding of the human body Cons: the “pin” function. I have to drop a pin multiple times before it will take. the app lacks bony landmarks, which I think is an essential piece of musculoskeletal anatomy (although I think this is available on the “skeleton system plus” app for an extra $10) I would love to see more detailed neuroanatomy (e.g. label more sulci/gyri, etc.) I’m almost finished with my first year of med school, and I’ve used this app heavily throughout the year. I would definitely recommend it! Update: the “pin” function works fine as long as you don’t have any structures selected, just a small glitch, but I’m glad I finally figured that out.

From Optometry School

Love the detail of the vessels and nerves! Great on muscles (includes innervation, origin, insertion, and action)! Bones are great. I would like to see some bone structures and be able to click on them and have them labeled. Also I would like when I click on the structure not to have the title right in the middle of my screen where I am trying to view the structure. Also I would like the zoom when you move close to structures not to be so choppy. Other than that, totally worth the money! One of the most helpful things I have used to study anatomy in both under-grad and graduate school! This App helps bring all the structures together, where you might otherwise have to piecemeal a bunch of pictures together to try to figure out what is superficial and what is deep, what is more lateral and what is more medial, etc.
