Essential Anatomy 5 App Reviews

Impressive

Ive been using this for school. helps to understand the spatial relations between organs.

incredibly buggy

this app has a lot of promise/potential but has some serious bugs. for example, try to look at the rectum, so you type in rectum and it pulls up the entire colon. then you click on just the descending colon to hide it, hoping you can hide it and eventually isolate the rectum, but it then deletes everything. or you want to study a particular arterial pathway from aorta down to the distal branches of the internal common iliacs. so you type in the name of each artery one at a time…ascending/descending aorta, thoracic aorta, abdomianl aorta, etc…then you type in the next vessel name and all of a sudden every single artery in the body is now on full display. and there is no undo button so the only way to fix this is if you turn off all the arteries and start over. furthermore certain key structures are missing such as fascia layers in the abdomen and pelvic regions. finally, where is the female anatomy? why is there only male? these issues need to be addressed. until they are, my rating is 1 star because this is NOT worth the price i paid.

Even the Doctors are very impressed

The wife has a very rare disease….. Takayasus Arteritis. This program aided us and her doctors in describing their diagnosis as well as treatment options. The doctors at Mayo - Roschester, Mn and Heart Hospital - Plano, Tx were very impressed with this ipad tool. I have also used this tool with my local physician(s) as well as discussions with family members who are not physicians. All persons viewing this program are impressed and gain benefit from its use. I have used some of the developers other software; however, I have been totally impressed with Essential Anatomy. The developer seems to care about the functionality and is very proactive in keeping up to date.

Essential for Medical School Anatomy!

I would not be doing as well as I am in medical school anatomy class if not for this app! It supplements the time I spend in lab and I really like being able to isolate different structures, as well as multi-select. I often remember and “visualize” the content on this app even over my real cadaver body on the test and it helps tremendously. The new female anatomy is wonderful! There are extremely difficult to visualize structures in the female pelvis such as the broad ligament, and all the “tubes” - i.e. - ovarian ligament, suspensory ligament of the ovary, round ligament of the uterus, uterine tubes, and ureters. This app shows anatomical RELATIONSHIPS very well, which is what at least my professors and I assume most, test on. Very, very good and life like! The only thing I think they could improve on would be to show fascia layers so it is more like a real cadaver (i.e. - fascia lata, peritoneum, etc). Props to this company for amazing customer service an an amazing app that got this med student through anatomy!

I’ve been teaching Neuromuscular Body Therapy in Germany and the US for many years and just recently was able to use Essential Anatomy 4. What a brilliant teachinig tool. The best app I have found. I know that they are working on many aspects of completing the anatomy of the model and I look forward to many more updates. I recommend the app to all of my students. Bar-non the best out there. The customer service is exceptional - another plus.

As a massage therapy student this App was incredibly helpful in Anatomy classes. As a Licensed practicing therapist I use the MacBook version for review and the iPhone version to educate clients during sessions.

Medical School Must

Awesome app, really detailed and is going to be super helpful for Anatomy

Old person

Really Impressive...

My investment in this app has been completely worthwhile as it just keeps getting better. I’d like to help out reviewer “AndrewJacob6”. There is a save feature, go to preferences > restore saved position. You can highlight nerves and vessels too without having to select every branch, by using the breadcrumb trail, at the top of the screen. This feature is actually awesome and saves so much time! You can use for all systems. You should really get in touch with the developer about the crashing and your concerns. Anytime I’ve had an issue, I’ve always received a prompt response and a resolution. It’s easy to get in touch with them too. I find essential anatomy an invaluable educational tool and I will continue to recommend to fellow colleagues and patients too. Thank you 3D4Medical for providing us with such a wonderful anatomy app.

Essential Anatomy for Rolfers and nerve work

I have used this application since it came and it keeps getting better. It helps me understand anatomy in a way that was not possible - by turning on or off the various systems of the body so that you can locate for example the obturator nerve by finding the femoral artery in the groin area and then sliding just medial to it and there is the nerve. I use it to send images to propsective clients (I told one woman that her problem was not the hamstrings per se but the posterior femoral nerve - when I sent her an image of it, she immediately called back and said “that’s exactly where it hurts!” and she made an appointment). I have sent images to doctors or PTs to explain my sense of what the problem was or in more severe cases, that is they were going to do a cortisone injection, here are the most inflamed spots which they felt was useful in making their injections more precise and the client felt she got better results. I have found that if I point out missing things or even slight mistakes that they are happy to have that information and will change it in the next upgrade. I do some mentoring in Rolfing and nerve work and use it often to advise students on solving problems and have gotten many of them to buy the app and they love it also. Obviously this does not have the detail of Grey’s anatomy but it let’s you manipulate the images and see through layers in ways that none of the anatomy books can do...

Crashes often, but useful. Potential for major improvements.

Useful 3D model for visualizing internal structures. Program crashes almost everytime I use it. This is frustrating because you lose whatever structures you currently had pulled up. One fix is for the program to “save” your current view often so if it crashes you can just pull it back up without hassle. Some of the arteries shown are not the most common variation. (For example, the dorsal scapular artery shown is only present in about 1/4 the pop.) The box pops up to label the selected structures gets in the way of viewing the structures. There should be an option for this box to be in its own window to avoid this. Very frustrating. There’s no option to show bones. This is a pretty obvious improvement. There also needs to be an easier way to show an entire nerve or vessel (including its branches) without selecting every single branch.

Fantastic!

This app is one of the best I have ever seen for learning anatomy. It has been extremely useful throughout my undergrad career.

First year PTA student

This is great addition to coursework. Key word is addition. I really hope they update it an add more bone landmarks. The muscular system is great, but I find the skeletal system to be lacking in detail, definitely not at the college level as far as that goes.

Really impressive but please make it easier to navigate!

I have this app on my ipad as well and I will say it is much easier to navigate the model on there, I can’t seem to move around the view to different parts of the body easily! Please take heave to the multi touch function for the app on mac and make it easier to shift. The fade is also a little faulty its hard to see what i clicked on when the whole thing fades because the selected item is highlighted as well. Please fix in the update! Thanks

MISSING INFORMATION

The first several times I used this app I was blown away. Its an excellent study tool and really helps visualize many of the size shape and location of human anatomy, the real weakness is in the anitomical relationships… some of them were not accurate. For example, national professional exams will ask things like: “ name the structures that pass through the parotid gland.” … and the app will show the correct answer choices posteriorally to the gland. Tools are difficult to use. For example, if you mistakenly hide a structure to better visualize something, you have to put EVERYTHING you hid back and start over. Also, the dialogue box is CONSTANTLY popping up over what I am trying to look at. Makes me want to SCREAM and there is no way to lock it in place that I know of... Finally, there are anatomical structures that simply arent there. For example, you cant isolate any muscles of the larynx or pharynx or even isolate something like “intrinsic muscles of the pharynx” on its own without manually removing everything around it… if its even there. Levator Veli Palatini? Where are you? It would be IMMENSELY helpful if you could isolate structures and then add back related structures from a suggestion box or search. If you are taking undergrad anatomy, this is awesome. If you are a medical/dental student… still helpful, but falls short.

Absolutely Amazing

I never take the time to leave reviews, but I am so blown away about this app that I have to stop and recommend it to all learning human anatomy. As a medical student, it has probably been the single most helpful accessory to class lectures in learning and understanding the location and 3D relationships of structures of the body. It isn’t perfect, but it sure comes close to being so. TL;DR - 5/5, worth it, as are the add-ons totaling $20 (on top of the price for the app).

Crashes constantly, can I get a refund?

cant even get the app to do anything without crashing instantly. Running OSX 10.8.4. I just wasted $35 on this app.

Doesn’t seem to like El Capitan

Bought this when using Yosemite and it worked well but with El Capitan it simply hangs when I try to load it.

Does not work

I downloaded this app today and it will not open. I have see it used by some of my classmates so I know how it is supposed to work, but all I see when the app “opens” is a blank white box. There must be some error becuase I am not able to close the app without using the force-kill option in my finder tab.
